The Port of Galveston celebrated an exciting milestone in September of this year. Now in it’s 15th year of operation, the cruise port has served over seven million passengers.
In an October 18th press release, Port of Galveston officials announced that their 7 millionth passenger crossed through their cruise terminal in early September 2015. Continue reading
There are plenty of places to stay in Galveston before or after a cruise. There are a couple nice hotels on the harbor side of the island, plus many more located along the island’s gulf beaches. Beachfront hotels on the east end of the island are the most convenient to the cruise terminal.

Harbor House Hotel: An option that’s within walking distance of the cruise terminal is the Harbor House Hotel and Marina at Pier 21. It’s a waterfront hotel that has a marina attached. The property was recently renovated and features modern, stylist rooms with harbor views. In a press release issued October 9, 2015, Royal Caribbean International announced that Liberty of the Seas, which will home-ported in Galveston beginning November of this year, will undergo extensive renovations in February of 2016.

While in dry dock, the Liberty of the Seas will receive a new collection of waterslides called the “Perfect Storm” including a boomerang style slide that drops riders down a steep slide and then up a nearly vertical wall and into a free-fall. Two new racer slides will also be added to the collection. The ship’s popular Flowrider surf simulator stays where it is on the Liberty of the Seas’ aft deck. Another addition will be a kids-only “Splashaway Bay” aqua park with water cannons, geysers, and more.
New dining venues to be added are Sabor, featuring modern Mexican cuisine, and Giovanni’s Table, with Italian classics served family style. Classic 1960’s style cocktails will be served up in the new R Bar. Continue reading
In a press release issued October 6th, Disney Cruise Line announced itineraries for early 2017, which include two additional cruise departures from Galveston.
The Disney Wonder will complete a winter 2016 season of sailing from Galveston with two January 2017 sailings before shifting to Port Canaveral, Florida. Continue reading
