Things to Do in Galveston: The Strand

Many people who cruise from Galveston end up staying in the area either before or after their cruise. There are plenty of things to do an see, and visiting Galveston’s The Strand historic district is at the top of many “must do” lists.  And it’s located close to the cruise terminal, providing something close-by for people to do before are after a cruise.

The Strand is a district in downtown Galveston with lots of interesting architecture and a wide variety of shops, restaurants, galleries, and museums. The Strand is a road that runs parallel to and two blocks back from the waterfront Harborside Drive. The main historic area runs along Strand from 20th to 25th Street.

If you have a sweet tooth, be sure to visit La King’s Confectionery, a candy company that’s been in business since the 1920s. Their shop on The Strand has a huge candy counter and an old-fashioned soda fountain and ice cream counter. On the weekends and throughout the summer you can see taffy being made.
